View on use of Gi Pants

Just curious on everyones view of the use in gi pants. I personally like to use them in training, feel you just get a better grip with the legs. I have yet to be in a comp yet, just wondering what the view on gi pants in comp as well.

I use leggings if I'm not in gi pants so I don't notice any difference.

ADCC Rules and other tournaments allow your opponent to grab your gi pants if you wear them, so you have to weigh the benefits versus the drawbacks.

I like the knee padding my gi pants have in them. My knees get hammered in leggings

I've gone back to gi pants for classes and rolling (well before surgery anyway... grr... mat withdrawl.). Eddie made the comment a long time ago and I re-posted it a while back about gi pants improving your game. Eddie's point was that early in your no-gi jiu jitsu career you're likely to find your half guard getting passed pretty regularly because you haven't developed the squeeze and control. As a result, you don't get many reps with your lockdown, quarter guard, mini stomp, etc. With gi pants you have a lot more friction so you're able to get more reps in at an earlier stage of your development. And we all know it's the reps that improve your game. More quality reps = more improvement. Since the pants prevent your partner from passing immediately, you get the chance to actually work the technique. Plus training in the summer in them is just hot as balls and I like that from a conditioning standpoint.

This is the most ridiculous thing/ 10th planet is all about no gi. No gi is fast and there is little stalling and yet the 10trh planet gear is all about creating friction. Essentially going as close back to the gi as possible while still rolling against a gi-less opponent. I've worn them in class before but if you have to wear something to make a move work it just seems silly.

Jiu jitsu does not relay on any specific clothing. It's a martial art. The more clothing you add the further you get from pure jiu jitsu.

Wearing Gi pants increases your lockdown and guard by at least 150 percent. Always wear Gi pants.
