    Aldo grabbed the %@#$ing fence!!!!

ARRRRRRRGH! I can't take it anymore. First people go on about Jon Jones' supposedly flawless victory against Rampage, and now Jose Aldo is considered un-takedownable because Chad Mendes, a decorated amateur wrestler, could not seal the deal. What are we? The United States Government? What's with all the lies and deceit?

NO...no we arent this is bullshit he had that takedown...leave it to a brazillian to cheat. That changed the whole fight. This is bullshit. I want it changed to a NC. I want an Aldo Mendez 2 with an electric fence!

I dont see how it changed the fight dude. I've wrestled my whole life and saw that it had many chances to hit the same takedown up until he got knocked out. Mendes kept trying to take him forward, he should have atleast tried to throw him over his (suplex style). But he just kept trying to finish it the same way.

Everyone saw Aldo grab the fence. Yes it's illegal. He was warned. Do you know why Mendes isn't complaining? Because he's a pro. And he knows that fence grabs happen.

But again, using all available info that we have on MMA, we can't predict the future, but we can arrive at an educated conclusion.

How many guys has Chad Mendes finished from that position with 1:30 left? 0. We can use this to conclude that Mendes would've just gotten top control and made it to round 2 if he landed it and controlled Aldo. IF he could keep him down.

How do guys usually land when they get dumped like that? Watch hours of footage on UFC fights and you'll see most guys land on all fours....just like Aldo when Mendes made his 2nd attempt. And Aldo popped right back up. So we see that the thwarted TD attempt may not have even been successful to begin with. Had he landed it, how do we know he would've kept Aldo down?

Why would we assume that this takedown would've had a dramatic impact on the overall fight? IMO, had he landed the TD, Aldo would've just gotten back up. At best, Chad would've held him down and made it to round two....where he would've gotten leg kicked to death while getting another 5 TD attempts stuffed.

Yes the fence grab happened. But it didn't change the outcome of the fight as much as you think. Remember, a fence grab didn't execute a perfectly timed knee. A fence grab didn't win the fight. It just avoided one takedown that likely wouldn't have amounted to much anyway.

Let me be clear: I'm under no illusions that Mendes would have won the fight, just like I don't dispute that Jones beat Rampage. I'm just pointing out how people, especially those MMA "reporters" (I swear they're bigger shills than the actual press), don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. So, now they're spinning the Aldo/Mendes fight as though Mendes couldn't take him down, which is only true if you whitewash the whole fence-grabbing thing.

    Oh, and Jon Jones sucks.

Gotcha. So I typed all that for nothing. LOL.

I agree. Unfortunately these days reporting is less about facts and more about sensation. Making it seem like Aldo was "untakedownable" isn't exactly right, but it makes for a cooler story. I get your point. I just been arguing on sherdog with guys who swear that Mendes would've somehow won the fight off one takedown.

Oh, and Jon Jones sucks enough to beat 2 legends and 1 top 5 former champ.

Haha, I was losing sleep (literally. I think I have a problem) over something a sherdogger said last night. Mark my words, Aldo will eventually secure his place as the Cheick Kongo of the 145lb. division. He just needs to add some ball-shots into his arsenal.
