What are we? The United States Government? What's with all the lies and deceit?
Everyone saw Aldo grab the fence. Yes it's illegal. He was warned. Do you know why Mendes isn't complaining? Because he's a pro. And he knows that fence grabs happen.
But again, using all available info that we have on MMA, we can't predict the future, but we can arrive at an educated conclusion.
How many guys has Chad Mendes finished from that position with 1:30 left? 0. We can use this to conclude that Mendes would've just gotten top control and made it to round 2 if he landed it and controlled Aldo. IF he could keep him down.
How do guys usually land when they get dumped like that? Watch hours of footage on UFC fights and you'll see most guys land on all fours....just like Aldo when Mendes made his 2nd attempt. And Aldo popped right back up. So we see that the thwarted TD attempt may not have even been successful to begin with. Had he landed it, how do we know he would've kept Aldo down?
Why would we assume that this takedown would've had a dramatic impact on the overall fight? IMO, had he landed the TD, Aldo would've just gotten back up. At best, Chad would've held him down and made it to round two....where he would've gotten leg kicked to death while getting another 5 TD attempts stuffed.
Yes the fence grab happened. But it didn't change the outcome of the fight as much as you think. Remember, a fence grab didn't execute a perfectly timed knee. A fence grab didn't win the fight. It just avoided one takedown that likely wouldn't have amounted to much anyway.
