is 10 planet jj considered bjj or American jj???

Would we consider 10th pjj Brazilian jj or American jj, because the Brazilians got juijitsu from the Japanese and after modification came up with bjj. And they dont call what they do japenes jj. So would it be safe to say that after master Eddie learned bjj and then modified it and being from America, that what we are doing is American jj. Just thinking.

I get your logic...and I would consider it more of an Aemerican Hybrid...with Brazilian and Japanese roots.

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

BJJ has tons of variations on it's own. Even traditional BJJ gi schools vary in their adoption of various techniques from other grappling arts. If you go around and train at various gyms, you will notice this immediately. In theory that would make all BJJ programs "hybrids."

Eddie has been quoted as saying that "10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is anything that works at a high level for no-gi." Don't forget that Eddie got his BJJ Black Belt from JJ Machado in the gi and began adopting BJJ techniques for no-gi because he wanted to continue to see the dominance of BJJ in MMA. Eddie did all of this for his love of Jiu Jitsu.

    Thank you Master Eddie!
