Just like me "day late, dollar short" damn you Jake shields for stealing my shit. Fuck it, I'm still calling Eddie "the father of American juijitsu " who's with me.
I think American JJ has a better ring to it than something that rings of Sumerian / Akkadian / Babylonian myth. You make it Babylonian Jiu jitsu, someone will invent Persian Jiu Jitsu and beat you down. Cyrus the Great ftw.
10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
BJJ has tons of variations on it's own. Even traditional BJJ gi schools vary in their adoption of various techniques from other grappling arts. If you go around and train at various gyms, you will notice this immediately. In theory that would make all BJJ programs "hybrids."
Eddie has been quoted as saying that "10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is anything that works at a high level for no-gi." Don't forget that Eddie got his BJJ Black Belt from JJ Machado in the gi and began adopting BJJ techniques for no-gi because he wanted to continue to see the dominance of BJJ in MMA. Eddie did all of this for his love of Jiu Jitsu.
I know the "Godfather of Grappling" is Gene LeBell. Defender of the grappling faith for many years when people thought it was just a bunch of guys wrestling in pj's. Also Eddie said that he thinks Gene may have been the one to show him some of the stuff he uses today. Anyway you cut it, Eddie is a game changer with fantastic teachers and people who support him.
I totally agree Jason, but I think it we are seeing the next evolution in martial arts and I'm glad to be a part of ... and Jason btw, I'm a big fan, one day I hope to meet you and the rest of the west coast guys
Thanks Frank. You're right. It is definitely evolution and an interesting topic of conversation. I am glad to be a part of it as well. It is very exciting.
