Dammit I just checked out their website and they confirm we can use heel hooks in Toronto. here's the notice from the site:

    ***RULES NOTICE***
NAGA will be using our rules and scoring system for this tournament. One major addition though will be the adoption of the Ontario Grappling regulating bodies list of illegal techniques. In Ontario, techniques such as; heel hooks, neck cranks, "can openers', etc. are not allowed. A full list can be found HERE.

And then you wonder why when the big shows come to Canada they always pick Toronto.. FFS come to Montreal, we have all the real grapplers

The GQ Worlds sounds like it could be a legit rival to the only other submission wrestling world championship, Nogi Worlds.

I hope it becomes more prestigious so we don't have to mess with those bias IBJJF refs anymore.

Sucks for us west coasters tho...

I was seriously thinking about the Nogi Worlds for next year. But having seen and heard so much BS, I'm thinking of sticking to Grapplers Quests.

Naga seems the most fair in the ones Ive been to. Giving points for sub attempts instead of just advantages really encourages you to open up and take chances. Plus you weigh in the night before.

Other than some bad reffing which happens everywhere, we attended three Nagas is year and had decent luck.

GQ worlds is crazy legit an a huge tourney every year. The 2 major differences are that you can reap the knee etc. and there are only 3 divs. beginner (white) intermediate (blue) an advanced (purple, brown, black). Winning an advanced div. is a big deal at GQ plus all advanced finals are broadcast on national TV (Fight Network). I can't do IBJJF. I reap the knee like every 15 secs.
