...we are on the verge of getting something broke? Hahaha. Next time you are escaping a leg lock or witnessing someone escape the lock, notice who's smiling... It's almost backward. The guy about to get snapped should be frowning, and the guy doing the snapping should be smiling... Unless I missed something.

Regardless, play responsibly. And let's all keep smiling.

I know Calan. Man tonight I didn't even have to smile. Big Ruben kiilled me.

Same thing just happened to me yesterday a couple of times. I'd smile when I'd get the tap and frown when I'd lose the position. My partner always smiled when they got out. Maybe it's because leg locks just feel like more of a threat to most people? I know I was always way more nervous when Scott had a hold of my legs than I was when he was on my back.

Hahahhaa! That's awesome man. I know what you mean. I think when you're about to get armbarred or rnc'd you are focused because a mess up could mean bad things.

The leg locks, even though they can mean even worse things, seem to be escapable and don't seem to be a credible threat. But now that I think of it, in competition they are very credible because they guys will take it without hesitation. So visualizing myself in competition, or against a person that I know won't hesitate to take my foot off if I don't tap, I don't think I would be smiling. I'll have to verify this next time.

I feel like the smile is recognition of you got me kinda. In a sense you can't really take a lot of those locks to the point that makes someone tap, Imo the point of tapping to a lot of those submissions is right next to the point of them snapping. Especially in guys that have any kind of small tears or any other issues. Just my opinion I guess, I smile because I am thinking damn you got me, your not mean enough to crank it on full blast.. but id definitely be fucked if this was a tournament. If it was legit when we are done rolling I pretty much always make a point to bring up the fact I was caught in it and acknowledge the fact that I appreciate them not tearing my ACL etc. and let them know there is little doubt I would have been tapping in tournament.

Yeah, well said! That's exactly it, cause it's one of the only subs the guy can go super soft, and you'll still tap. It's a smile to say "Thanks for not hurting me but we both know you could have"
Haha on that note I also smile when someone hits a complex move on me.

This! Exactly! It's like walking a tight rope with a net underneath. You're scared to walk but you do anyway because the consequence should only be a tap. So you move forward with a smile, and try to see if you can survive.

I think people just like spinning out of things. It's fun. Usually though, I'm smiling too since as they roll they usually give up the heel hook which I silently cradle like a secret baby and then I release it before they even know they were in it.
