Whats the story with John Danaher does he/did he compete?

It looked to me like at full speed he made a good go at that sweep and Renzo scrambled and stayed on top and then conjured it into something technical that resulted with him setting up an armbar. No disrespect to Renzo who is a legend, the scramble to stay on top was neat but the sweep attempt looked nailed on, it looked like if he had beat him to the pummel he would have gained top.

Marcelo swept Pablo Popovitch with it. It's definitely legit. It prevents them from posting with that arm and can set up triangles or telephone armlocks if the seep doesn't work.

Danaher was Renzo's 1st black belt in the U.S. along with Shawn Williams, and maybe one other guy. He teaches most of the advanced classes in NYC. He was a Philosophy Professor at Columbia. He's a genius, and is incredible. There's no real footage of him rolling, as they don't allow video filmed at Renzo's school unless there's permission given like for 60 Minutes, etc. He doesn't compete due to some back injuries. Danaher showed Joe D'Arce the Darce, etc. Brilliant dude, eccentric. Never takes off his rashguards. Doesnt wear anything else. He wore a rashguard to Matt Serra's wedding. Lots of people just call him New Zealand John.
