I was a heavy drinker throughout college and for years afterwards. I never ran anyone over or left a baby unattended in a pool, but I was doing it by myself a lot and it was getting in the way of things. But then 6 months ago I just decided I had had enough and stopped altogether. I still smoked weed in phases, but then I realized that I was binging on it and essentially using it as a substitute for alcohol, so now I've stopped doing that too. I figure I'll get around to phasing out caffeine, cigarettes and animal products eventually.

Occasional weed vaping and alcohol drinking here. Moderation is the key for me. I never touch nicotine any more.
I drink alcohol rarely, that stuff... If I didn't like working out I'd probably be an alcoholic!

Those would be the two drugs I limit myself to. A beer here and there, and a puff of something good, makes me happy, that's all I need to have an extra good time really!

I don't drink smoke or take illegal drugs, not to be straight edge but to be sober minded as the bible teaches.

One of the Montreal guys Chris Bilodeau was straight edge for years. I'm pretty sure now that he is comfortable with himself and matured he is not so strict about having a beer with us after a competition, or smoking a joint to ease the pain of training. As long as you are in control of your life there is not need to be so extreme.

I completely agree that you shouldn't let things control your life... and quitting things you enjoy altogether is still allowing that thing to control your life. I just simply have no interest to try anything. If you never try something... you'll never miss it. I definitely want to fade into vegetarian... and/or organics... mostly because what we are eating out of stores now is nothing but chemicals and hormones and the way animals are treated is just completely disgusting and unethical. So I want to get into a position to where I'm not contributing to that. But I've done it before and got sick... I'll really have to learn how to sustain a healthy diet without the help of animal products before I ever try it again
