Everybody has their own lives to worry about so if your name is not Jessica Simpson or Oprah Winfrey, you being fat does not really concern, bother or take place in anybody's conversation. You need to suck up and realize that your fears are being created in your brain only.
I'll give you an example, when I was a kid, I was scared of Vampires. Only vampires, not Freddy, not Jason, not monsters or any type of serial killers. Just vampires. I was so scared that I would have trouble going inside a dark room, or be alone in the house. I never said this to any of my friends or family because I did not want them to think that I was a pussy. Over couple years this fear of vampires started to make my life somewhat uncomfortable, my mom wondered why I kept on trying to talk to her all though I was 2 rooms over etc.. ( I was thinking if I am talking to my mom and a vampire got me, my sentence would get cut in half and she will realize that something wrong)... Anyways, after a while my fear turned to anger. I was really fucking upset at vampires for making me feel like a pussy, one day I was alone at home I walked in a dark room and started screaming. "Fuck you mother fucker, come out and fight you bitch, its you and me , right here right now!!!" I'd like to remind you I was around 7 or 8 at the time. After swinging a couple punches in the air, I felt a big load come off my shoulders. There was nobody around. I was comfortable, finally. Sometimes still to this day, when I walk in a dark room and obviously no vampires attack me, I smile to myself and say " Thats right bitch, stay in the shadows or I'll fuck you up"
Moral of the story, if you can turn your fears and tears to anger and madness, it works out pretty good.

Be sure to research gyms. Don't sign up at the first gym you go to. Go to open mats and intro classes. The people in this sport are more often then not great people. But there are a lot of meat head douche bags out there. I can generally tell the type of people as soon as I walk in. If you walk in and the people in the gym ignore you (assuming no class is going on) and look you up and down, you should probably turn around. It might sound corny but they should greet you with a smile and a handshake. Also they should ask about you and your goals.

I posted a thread about this a couple months ago but i think i'm really just looking for motivation.
I have a bit of social anxiety. I'm socially awkward. And there is a girl there who can whip my ass on the mats. You know what helps me? Leave my ego at the door. It's not about being the best guy in the room. It's about being a better you. I go in there expecting to fail, but learning from those failures. I expect to gas, and I expect to push myself just a little bit further. But on top of that, I'm blessed with a good gym full of good guys and great coaches. Judgement free zone and we're all willing to help eachother.

Weigh the positives vs the negatives. If you break it down, the positives are WAY better than the negatives. In fact, the negatives are petty. The positives are substantial.

Noob to noob; do it. Push all the doubts and fears to the side. Just dive in head first. You won't regret it.

sounds like you may be overthinking it. If this is something you've decided you want to try, then go for it. Don't concern yourself with being more or less than anyone in there, serves no purpose but to enhance your own ego. If anyone talks negatively about you, that's their problem not yours. Obviously you got to start somewhere, there are going to be people there who know more or less, are in better or worse shape than you, it doesnt matter. All that matters is that you enjoy what your doing, and in time these things will come to you also. Just keep an open mind, check your ego, learn from everyone, practice good hygiene/trim nails, have fun.

You need to not worry about all that you will be fine. IMO i've seen guys that hit the gym daily join jiu-jitsu and gas outt quick. Everyone you train with will help you grow while learning. Can't worry about everyone else
