I skimmed most of the comments and I have yet to read the counter point that Scott Epstein is not the most flexible guy in the world and he won Gracie Nationals using 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu.

Dudes need to chill out and listen to the interview. What the thread starter posted was correct, Rener said that Eddie Bravo's Jiu Jitsu 'filter' was designed to work best for guys just like him - flexible (he never said it won't work if you're not flexible, just that it works BEST if you're flexible).

He ALSO said that Helio's Jiu Jitsu was filtered (there's that touchy word again) to work best for for people like him - the smaller, weaker person. Also mentioned was that if an MMA fighter taught Jiu Jitsu, it would likely be filtered to work best for strong, atheletic types (probably was referring more to Frank Mir than Shinya Aioki).

The basic premise being - everyone teaches Jiu Jitsu through their own filters. They'll teach what works best for them. Which honestly, makes a whole lot of sense, and is true for any good martial arts instructor.
(Note: If a martial arts instructor only teaches you stuff he doesn't personally use, and refuses to teach you what works best for him - it's time to find another school).

As always, lots of respect from Rener. He's a red belt-level salesman for sure, but never one to talk down on others.
(He also gives props to Eddie in the interview, calling him a "Jiu Jitsu scientist")

    Cheers

I agree with rener actually. it's true that being flexible is one of the key parts of 10pjj. I remember eddie saying in one of his videos that he doesen't give a blackbelt unless his students can at least do a full lotus. Well, it was full lotus, or knees to the ground on butterfly stretch can't remember.

which is great because I have a similar body type as eddie... longer legs though, which in my opinion helps with some of his stuff. shit, I do bjj and I'd love to train under him some day.

I think we're all missing the point though... the fact that rener gives eddie props (and has also done it in the past) means that some of the younger gracies are actually acknowledging the evolution of the sport, which is awesome for the gracies and can only benefit them. We've even seen ralek throw some head kicks in his saku fight.

I can't wait for the day that a gracie starts training in other arts as much as bjj. that will be the day a beast is born.
