    Well this sucks....

So last night I went for an electric chair sweep. Somehow I botched it and in the course of the scramble ended up in a 69 position with a training partner. His arm somehow ended up between my legs and I somehow managed to get into Jiu Claw...only problem is that his leg was over my head still. Making an effort to pass his leg and sit up for an Omaplata I felt a POP! Immediately stopped rolling, was in extreme pain. Described the pain to my coach and how it happened, and he decides it was a dislocated rib and I'm out for 6-8 weeks if I want a 100% recovery. Thought he was bs'ing me, so I did some research. I went to the doctor today and found out that it is a separated rib with surrounding ligament damage. Anybody have any experience with a similar injury? Were you really out almost 2 months!?! I have a fight scheduled on 1/24, looks like thats not happening, but I don't want to miss mat time.

Hi Kyle. Yes, I've had a separated rib. The good news is you will heal if you listen to your doctor. Bad news is it takes a long time to heal a separated rib. That specific injury takes so long to heal because that part of your body is involved with almost every single movement you do since it's part of your "core." I extended my recovery time because at the 2 month mark, I started rolling again, only to rePOP the separated rib. Let it rest up and heal if you want to recover quickly.

yup long heal time ... mine still appears out lol but I have no pain in it. It was years ago that it happened now and there is no bother to it now. Every time you breath it pulls at the area so it isnt a fun heal. its like getting a cut between your thumb and index finger .... every time you open your hand it wants to open the cut ... shitty buzz.... good luck with your recovery

Same. ribs are tricky. I was out for 2 monthes. Very big set back but already a thing of the past. You will heal and get over it and become a champion.

I rested for 2 weeks and used a heating pad alot. for the next 6 weeks I only did weight-lifting and only isolation exercises such as curls, leg curls, bench press, etc. and after I had a good sweat I would just hang there from a pull-up bar for about 1-2 minutes to stretch the area, and then sat in the hot tub for awhile before going home and using the heating pad again. After 8 weeks I was ready to do full body exercises and cardio. After 12 weeks I was rolling again. I still get pain there when someone goes knee on belly but it goes away within 24 hours. Also , you will need to strectch thee back muscles and lay flat on the floor alot because your back muscles will over-compensate for your damaged rib muscles and become sore and stiff.

I busted my rib about 2 weeks before my trip to HQ and Van Nuys. Went anyway. Hurt it worse the first night at Alder's. Took 6 months to get back to rolling without thinking about my stupid ribs.

    Good luck dude.

Sounds like there has been a lot of experience with this within the forum. And I feel for all of you. Gotta say though, as good as the info in this thread is, and as much as its going to help me from making it worse.....can't believe I'm going to be out of rolling for this long. Wish me luck everyone, I'm gonna die of boredom.

One more here. I was out 2 months with a rib injury.
That was a while back and I still feel tenderness in that
spot when I've been going at it hard.
