Great story to hear. Remember one thing, man. The beauty of BJJ is the depth of technique. My instructor calls the purple belt the "karate black belt", because the skill level you need to earn them are the same. That's why there are only 4 belts (plus white) - BJJ is about getting better over time, not getting promoted.
For this reason, you can't just quickly get way better - there is too much to learn. In other martial arts, there are 15 belts, and you can often beat someone who is only a belt or two higher. 10 private lessons, a few months of work, and you can win tournaments. But in BJJ, the learning curve it too much. It takes years to get comfortable and instinctive with your game. But again, that's the beauty. When you get there, you get the confidence of knowing that no random joker is going to get lucky on you, or spend 3 weeks training and catch up.
Don't get frustrated when you lose or when you don't make huge improvements. It sounds like you are progressing quite rapidly, and the things that slow you down from catching up to others are the same ones that will make you untouchable to others down the road. Good luck! Ossss!
