What can I say my brothers, we have always been an offensive minded system. So it should be no surprise that we dominated the most prestigious Submission-Only event on the planet, the Gracie Nationals. Take points and advantages and bias IBJJF reffing out of the mix, and make it submission only, 15 minute rounds and the school that focuses most on finishing fights should win. And that's exactly what happened.
And most importantly Denny Prokopos, the man at the top of the 10th Planet competition mountain, 10th Planet's first black belt, submitted 2 black belts on his way to 1st place including a twister and a flying guillotine on UFC star Nam Phan.
We had so many great performances, like Scott Epstein getting 1st place, 10th Planet Vista's Geo and his brother Richie from the break dancing crew, "Freakshow", both took first place, 10th Planet San Francisco went 12-1, 10th Planet Riverside's Jenna Lee took 1st place in the womens division, and on and on, including awesome performances from 10th Planet El Paso, 10th Planet Van Nuys, 10th Planet Burbank, 10th Planet Hawaiian Gardens and 10th Planet West LA, oh and I almost forgot, 10th Planet HQ brown belt Amir Allam submitted a bjj black belt with a mounted gogo, it was an epic day for 10th Planet.
It was a historic tournament. No point tourneys are fucking awesome. It is so much more fun preppin my team for the Gracie Nationals. We had to focus ALOT on anti stalling drills for the NoGi Worlds which was crucial but so not fun. For the Gracie Nationals all we focused on was submissions and defense against submissions. Now that was LOTS of fun.
The Gracie Worlds is July 15 in San Jose, I'm looking forward to that one big time. No more relying on the IBJJF for world titles. I really think point tournaments will eventually be a thing of the past.
Support your local sub only tourneys.
Thank you all VERY much for your loyalty and faith in the system, this is just the beginning, we have alot more work to do if you we wanna stay on top of the submission only tournament mountain.
