    question about teaching?

Ok so I pretty much figure that in order to learn more you have to become an instructor at some point. I just have a problem I don't like people or every been a people person. I have a strong desire to instruct sometimes but I just can't get past the part of W/e it is that's holding me back. Any advice on how to pass the point of shyness of instructing a class?

This. I am also a hater of people Sir. However, I can easily teach because my guys are like minded individuals. We all share a common need to learn new ways of choking others. As for teaching adults, you'll find 3 types of students. Those who learn by reading and studying tech., those who must feel it applied, and those that must do the tech through endless reps. There are others but that's a long story. Teaching kids is a different world and takes years of training lol.

Start 1 on 1 till you build your confidence and develop your own style. Think of the qualities you look for in an instructor them build then in you. Its a process. But at some point you have to hold your breath and jump.

Tez makes a great point. I thought that I hated people because I was horrible around them. Then I got good at interacting with them and now I enjoy people.

Just dive in, and just like you're jiujitsu you'll get better at it with repetition.

Its very difficult to become a good teacher or coach if you dislike people. A good coach genuinely cares for the development and well being of his or her students, and the people in the community. I treat all of my students as if I were their brother and sister. If you have a general distaste for people, I suggest looking into a different field. I truly believe in the maxim of Judo and as it applies to everything. "Maximum Efficiency, Minimum Effort and Mutual Welfare. To be a contributing member of society you have care about society and it's progress.

"I just hate stupid people" is a cop out. Stupid people are just people who haven't been properly educated , as a teacher it’s our job to give to those people, and educate them. If you did your job as a teacher, those "stupid" people will pay it forward and educate others as well.

Jiu Jitsu doesn't lie, if your not a genuine person that has a interst in helping people it will shine through, your mask of false sincerity will be exposed, be true to yourself and others at all times.

Teaching can often be a struggle and challenge for the best of em...

Looks like your biggest challenge is social anxiety...but like everyone said, reps and having passion about what your teaching will allow you to eventually overcome that one.

To me, the real challenge is teaching the "stupid" people. Zog is right, if your good it can be done...but good god I struggle at this the most. Stupid people are usually not "stupid" they are just ignorant. And ignorant people with their EGOs out of check are probably one of the biggest challenges teachers face.
