Want to see something amazing? Eric Ingram became the first quadraplegic in history to earn a blue belt in jiu-jitsu from the legendary Gracie family.

“I tried karate for a year but there’s too much stand-up technique and it just turned into me watching everyone else do it,” said Ingram, 20, a physics major at Old Dominion University. “With Gracie Combative it’s mainly groundwork and the other techniques [Ingram and his brother Troy] were able to adapt to meet my needs.”

Troy Ingram is a certified Gracie instructor.

To obtain his belt after more than a year of hard work, Ingram had to demonstrate on videotape that he could perform all 36 Gracie Combatives moves in a series of four tests and then run a fight simulation with his brother as partner.

That's awesome! Side note: what kind of dick would attack a dude in a wheelchair such that he'd have to defend himself with jiu jitsu? Thanks for posting this; this was great to see!

Edit: I just saw some of the comments on the YouTube site. I didn't realize just how stupid and ignorant some people could be and yet still have the capacity to type. Fucking morons. Eric is awesome; he's an inspiration to anyone who trains jiu jitsu and serves as potent reminder that if all you can do is talk, just shut the hell up and let those who have the stones for it actually go out there and DO something. I would love to meet Eric someday and have a roll.
