What do you think of a guy who never trained fighting in MMA this Sun. Feb. 26th?

Last night was getting ready to teach a leglock class when in walked two guys I had never seen before. They said they were looking for Paul C. and The Empire Training Center. Told them no this is 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Riverside home of 10th Planet black belt Sean Bollinger and brown belt Jeremy Jiu-Jitsu Fields. They just stared at me as if to say they had no idea what I was talking about. Then I started to explain to them about the Eddie Bravo story, with Royler Gracie etc. etc. They had no idea what I was talking about on that one either. So just told them it was a long story that I could tell them later. Told them they had the wrong place and that it wasn't The Empire Training Center and there was no Paul C. They were friendly and we got to talking. (Besides it was getting late and they didn't seem like they wanted to leave to The Empire Training Center.) Found out they are both fighting in King of the Cage an MMA event here in California this Sunday Feb. 26th. Nothing surprising about that except the one guy who is going to fight Sunday has never trained one day in his life. He has never wrestled, boxed or anything. Asked him if he knew how to sprawl and he said no. Said he was a street fighter. The other guy has been training grappling/MMA and wrestled in high school. Any way everybody in the gym started helping both these guys. The one guy was ok but the other guy did not have a clue on any aspect of grappling or striking. I invited him to my leglock class and we concentrated on leglock counters since they are allowing leglocks in his fight. Then everybody start helping them out with techniques and rolling. One of our MMA fighters by the name of Kumba who has fought a few time in Tuff-N-Uff was really helping the one poor guy out who has never trained before.

At 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu we don't let anybody fight to after they have been training for awhile. Sparring boxing, grappling/MMA etc. etc. At least 3 months and that's for people that have already some kind of experience. No matter how long they have been training they would not be put in there until they are ready.

i hope you convinced them to not do it. that one fat guy who only lifted weights who made the "jiu jitsu sucks" videos from his basement decided to hop into an mma fight with no experience. ko'd in 11 seconds. it'll be a rude awakening when you say you've fought some bums in the street and somehow think that'll translate well against someone who's been training in all aspects of tearing you apart in a cage

Not the first time King of the cage does that..I know of one instance were they let a guy fight that had no previous MMA fights. in the one event were it was raining, and the fighters were slipping all the time, there was a guy with a fake record.
He should learn howto tap, lol! Most important first technique! It seems hopelessly unprofessional.. One would think there's be enough fighters to go around, at lest with a few amateur bouts on their belt.

That shit happens at my gym all the time. A dude told me he has killer stand up because he is a black belt in TKD and that he wrestled in Junior High so he was good there too. WTF it happens.

80% of the ammy fights around here are loaded with backyard heroes and bar fighting kooks. It's just the way it is.
