I've been doing a lot of work with the schools in my area to try to address the all-too-common issue of bullying, and the paper got a ton of calls about it and put me in the People section yesterday.
When I first was given the reigns of our dojo it was a 100% kung-fu school. Now we've got a Krav instructor sharing the love, my old judo instructor working takedowns and ground control with us, and some wrestlers who come up and mix it up with us and keep us honest. We even have some Muy Thai guys who come up to spar.
We work on jits every monday and have all come a long way on our ground games. Madison has one Gracie blue belt who comes to roll from time to time, and some of his guys drop in regularly. He trained in Lousiville and now rolls at his house. We had the old leader of 10P Indy come in to teach at our school, and me and some of my students have gone to train will Bill Keeling at his place as well as attend the Indy Herzog and Eddie seminars. I've been using the books for years and have been slowly working my way through MTS. (new baby and wife on third shift, time is rare) Bill's been helping me refine my game and all my guys and gals are drilling their asses off to make the same adjustments.
Here's a link to the article. While I talked about the importance of no-gi style grappling for self defense and mentioned how much 10P is on the cutting edge of the no-gi revolution none of that made the cut of the article or video.
Before anyone freaks, I never claimed to be a 10P teacher; just a fan of the system who trains it because it works so well. There's a link to short vid at the bottom. It's mostly just me talking, but there are a few short clips of us doing a little bit of work.
Special thanks again to Bill Keeling for injecting genuine 10th Planet into Madison. After years of trying to find my own way in the system it's awesome to have the path laid out in front of me.
