thanks everyone. I got good at heel hooks because I got tired of getting hit with them from my striking coach (Wally MacDonald). Herzog showed me how to do them correctly from all positions. It took me about 2 years to get good at them.

Problem with the heel hooks is that they are hardly ever useable in tournaments over here. A blue belt (not for long) from my gym, Will Gould, wrecks house with them, and has shown me a few nice tips.

I really like leg locks, but according to the IBJJF rules, they aren't acceptable at blue belt at all, only the straight ankle lock is allowed at purple belt, and then everything at brown except for heel hooks. Problem is, a lot of comps here use those rules.

IBJJF is impeding the evolution and development of its own. The IJF did the same thing to Judo. Thats why it important to train these arts as a whole and not just for sport(where your training is restricted by rules) limiting your potential growth.
