I rep tenth at the local MMA gym! But I'm out until august, can't pay the fee. I could train for free, but it gives me a bad conscience, besides, I need to focus on school these next few months, then I'm done with math for good. I hate that stuff.. University and student loan awaits, then I'll be rolling as much as I can!
Repping at the MMA gym is nice, it's all no gi, and there's some really good instructors that cross train MMA and Gracie Barra. We also have one instructor that is into tenth planet like me.

I feel I get a nice learning curve by watching MTS and drilling the moves on my grappling dummy. Grappling dummys are great for footlocks, mount, sidemount, Twister side control and rubber guard. Not so much for x guard, damn thing has no intention of staying upright, it just wants to lie down all the damn time. Same with anything inverted, or stuff like that.

Anyway, there's no tenth planet school, but there's definitively a learning curve, and I'm able to cram the stuff into the hard-drive. I've been having the most success with the lockdown, but I'm also able to pull off gogoplata's and triangles from the meat hook.

Considering that there's a lot of stuff to learn, and that MMA gyms have different types of stuff to focus on on different days, (limited rolling time), I tend to focus on lockdown and rubber guard, as well as Zogs leglock game. If I end up in guard I go for a footlock at first, if I miss it I try to keep the leg and get on top again. Then I go for the pass.

Same with sidemount, I try Twister sidecontrol, if I botch it, I go back to sidemount and try to work something from there.

The lockdown made my game tons better. I've always been mediocre on the mat, but I've been grappling for almost ten years now, so I have some level of expertise. But I feel that when you delve into a system like this, it makes a big difference.

If I ever get to a level were I am competing and winning consistently, I'd consider trying to get a hold of guys and start the process of building a moon. I'd better work my ass off first tho. We'll see.

Anyway, point to consider when being a Ronin, (back on topic), having a grappling dummy for drilling at home helps! I have a Bubba grappling dummy, Highly recommend it!

Great to hear and keep up the good work.
Having a goal AND a plan to obtain that goal is the way to succeed.

Being a "Ronin kind of TPJJ practisener" myself, there are pros and cons in the training of TPJJ because it's still a relative young style. The biggest pro is that there are different ways to learn it (join a Moon, create a Hotspot, etc...), while the biggest con is that finding a certified higher level instructor can be difficult/nearly impossible depending on your location.

I personally joined a more traditional BJJ club (Brasa Belgium, a Felipe Costa affiliate) and just incorporate TPJJ techniques during rolling. It takes longer to go through the TPJJ curriculum, but it's easier to incorporate them into the BJJ curriculum what makes me more an unpredictable opponent.
All by all I just fight the same style in gi and no-gi (minus techniques that aren't interchangeable), so if I ever open my own school (in 11years 8months) I'll call it "10th Planet Brasa Moon" instead of "10th Planet Belgium Moon" ;-)
