Hello, I have some questions. Could I do BJJ ?

I have always been interested in learning some kind of Martial Art. I
think BJJ is very cool to watch and I love when people talk about different
techniques. I really believe that BJJ would make me have a different outlook
on life, I personally think it could help me with Depression in my life.
Also I would love to lose some weight, which would make me feel good.

That being said would I be able to learn some BJJ ?
I'm 5'11 and out of shape. I also have mild Cerebral Palsy (Left side)
I can move eveything pretty good, but there's somethings I can't do
with my left hand. Its not deformed or anything. Just weaker.

I'm not looking to become some BJJ master, just someone looking
for something fun and to keep me level headed.

Could I learn some good techniques, I'm also thinking about
    taking some basic boxing classes.

    Thanks for reading,

    Jonathan

The only way you'll know is to try. Go for it! I have a training partner with a traumatic brain injury. He does just fine...seizures and all. Just find a school right for you. Don't let anyone discourage you.

Jiujitsu is for everybody. Just make it your own and don't compare yourself to others. Like that one legged wrestler dude who won the nationals (i think). Did he just sit around with his one leg and complain about how he can't ever do a double leg takedown? No, that dude got into matches with guys 2 weight classes lower than him (because he's missing a leg) and he proceeded to pull off the sickest, most impossible hip switches (because his leg is gone, he can drop that hip without any obstruction) grappling in a style that only he was capable of doing.

It will only help you if you commit. This is not easy and is entirely up to you, but I will vouch that it is awesome and worth every drop of blood, sweat, and semen. You down?

Find cool people who are passionate about training and good luck.

Wait.. so the only physical ailment is your left hand? why has nobody mentioned machado yet? Look up Eddies Instructor.. He had a deformity in one of his hands and became one of the greatest jiujitsu practitioners in the world. So to answer your question.. yes.. you can do it..

If there is one thing you can do, or you should do, well that's JiuJitsu. A friendly place and good training partners and you will be hooked for life. It will also broaden your social network. Most people who train Jiujitsu are very cool dudes and gals. As far as your physical stats, disabilities or weakness, we all have them as one form or the other and it really does not matter one bit.
    Welcome.
