Torn rib cartilage, Still going to Cali

I went to the doctor yesterday and it looks like I tore the cartilage on at least 3 ribs. Also, have a cracked rib from a few months back that never healed. I was rolling a little too hard with a brown belt Saturday that have about 50lbs on me and was playing knee on belly....I bridged and pop..

I'd much rather be out for only a month or 2 so its look like no Pan Ams for me. Still had everything book and paid for so I'm still headed out to LA with Jeremy Arel tomorrow. We will hopefully be by HQ Thurs or Friday. His match will be Saturday afternoon I believe.

Pretty bummed out though. I didn't have high expectations for the Pan Ams since it's a gi tourney. I've only competed in gi a few times but I figured what the hell. I had some sponsors pay for most of the expenses and now I can't compete. And on top of that it's my first trip to HQ and doesn't look like I can roll.

Already planning my next trip though. Possibly July for Gracie Worlds. I got to convince the wife.

Sorry to hear, I feel your pain, literally, last Wednesday, crack, pop, pop, kept rolling. Didn't tap during a scorpion crunch from a beast, stupid. Seems to happen about once a year for me, seems my ribs are my weakest link. I have a comp April 22, hard to let it heal. Take it easy for 2 weeks and the seem to heal enough.

I feel your pain as well. Rib injuries are some of the most uncomfortable and painful there are. I have torn my rib cartilage several times along with a few cracked ribs.....those weren't the worst injuries I've had, but they were some of the most painful.... MMA can be rough.

The first rib cartilage experience was a week before one of Eddie's seminars in Florida NY maybe 4-5 years ago. 4 Aleve later I was doing the seminar......probably should have stopped rolling and sparring that week, but I was dumb.

At any rate rest up and let your body heal.

Sorry to hear, guess it could've been worse. Rest it where u can, ice and heat treatment, and just absorb what u can from the seminars when you do go.

I actually hurt my leg last week so I've been nursing an injury that's been limiting my training too..I suppose it's the price u pay to stay in shape, but the price u pay to be out of shape is even higher...

Nice to hear about some other guys who have gone through the same type deal. It's going to be so hard to rest it but I'm gonna have to.

    HQ tomorrow night.

I completely sympathize with you. It'll be harder trying to stop yourself from training at HQ than sitting out of the tourney.

Well I couldn't resist rolling with Eddie. Rolled 3, 6 min rounds. Ribs are extra sore right now, but I had a blast

    Now ibuprofen and ice.
