    Combat Jiu Jitsu

I just recently observed that Eddie Bravo started a combat jiu jitsu promotions in which competitors can punch
opponents on the ground. I think combat jiu jitsu has more real life applications than just straight grappling. Will there ever be a school that incorporates combat jiu jistsu as a style?

A bunch of schools do. I've been to a few places where they had a self defense focused JJ class which involved drilling/sparring with strikes. Usually very light strikes, but enough to keep you aware that you can get hit there. First armbar I ever learned was in a luta livre class, involved punching the guy in the face in order to get a high mount.

Also any MMA training will involve grappling with strikes.

    Absolutely.

Much or all of the 10th Planet system can be practically applied to self defense. We have seen many fighters in the UFC (and probably other MMA but I do not watch too much) use the rubber guard effectively to avoid taking serious strikes when they are in bottom position on the ground. That is against professional fighters! Imagine if you were taken to the ground by one assailant, what is the chance that person has ever been in a rubber guard? Extremely low! That is one aspect of JJ that I love but specifically in 10th Planet, people just do not know how to respond.

Good luck finding a school that fits you!

You are absolutely right there are gyms that offer that. I trained at Randy Couture's gym and they incorporated strikes on the ground. Unfortunately they do not offer that where I am at in San Jose. Even at AKA.

AKA doesn't have Ground and Pound classes? I incorporate in my instruction when to apply striking for MMA but only the fighter apply the techs in ground and pound.

AKA has MMA classes but do not really focus on the ground and pound aspect while incorporating jiu jitsu techniques. The jiu jitsu classes are really good though. Some tough guys roll there for sure.
