I always come in with three goals for the day. My #1 is whatever I'm working on at the time. #2 is usually the back-up/counter/fail to whatever #1 is. Then #3 is usually my "at least..." goal. So #1 might be the Ghost, #2 is the m'arce from the Ghost, and #3 is "at least escape side control."
I definitely play lazy; or at least not very aggressive. I think I disengage too easily. If you've almost passed and my legs are tired, I'm usually just as content to let you pass and then work my side control escapes rather than burn my legs out squeezing the shit out of quarter guard. If the pass I'm trying to work on fails, I'm just as likely to slow down and let you replace full guard so I can try again rather than keep fighting my way through the pass. I have zero athleticism so I rely much more on tricky old-guy-jitsu than more Hulk-smash-jitsu. I'd rather hit you with some sneaky shit you didn't see coming than bulldoze my way through something. That just tires me out and makes me not enjoy the next roll.
