was rolling earlier in training, and the guy didnt know a thing about mma so he just stayed in side control or half guard whenever i got the lockdown, he was so muscular and strong and had all his weight on my arms so i couldnt do anything. we stayed like that the whole time pretty much. any suggestions guys???

    sweeps or the whip up

watch MTS 6 dipset to half and half @ 3:35

    *Edit*
Let me also add when i rolled with the 10P hartford guys, one of the things John said was what attracted him to the 10P system was the half guard and how effective the halfguard is at stifling and defeating opponents with superior size and strength. being a little guy myself at 5'5 155lbs i regularly roll with people much stronger and bigger then myself and often find myself attacking out of the half guard/lockdown.

yeah i wanted to whip up but i couldnt get any hands on his hips cos he had them pinned with his hands and used all his weight to hold them down. im 5'9 190lbs but this guy was so strong, all i could do was keep the lockdown as tight as i could so he didnt escape :/

well 1st keep that lockdown moving and work on your wing chun/ hand pummeling. learn a guard recovery move and prison guard to broaden your options for when you can't get your doubles.

First off, how could he stay in side control if you had the lockdown on him? As for the question, if I can't sweep someone from halfo guard and they are just stalling there, I usually slip in a butterfly hook and then go to butterfly guard. From there, you can try to sweep, or lift him up and pull full guard, and start working the rubber guard from there.

like rob said. stomp to butterfly. create a scramble at the very least. never leave your hips (and back) flat on the mat.

lol you dont understand, when i had the lockdown, i couldnt move at all cos my arms where pinned and he kept struggling against my lockdown, keeping my body stretched out. then whenever i lost the lockdown he layed in side control and kept moving his legs towards my head whenever i went for them, his grip around my torso was so tight i couldnt move my arms down at all. i kept getting the lockdown back every now and then, but it was just the same thing over and over. i wasnt happy, had planned on working my rubber guard today.

Get into some basic aikido. Small circles and learn how to break grips. I can't imagine anyone no matter how strong they are able to hold my arms to the mat while I have a solid lockdown in.

i train with heavier guys alot and i found the other day that when i have lockdown on people that pin my arms with their weight, i can transition to the dogfight by slowly butt scooting to the side 1 inch at a time until i have room to get to my knees instead of trying to whip them upwards
