Just took a look at his FB page, and from the looks of his post and the picture that he posted I didn't get the feeling he was being put on "life support". I'll say this: I have no idea why Denny would be in a hospital bed.
What I can say is part of the inpatient admissions process for a hospital is asking what a person's code status is going to be, if they have any advanced directives (set of instructions to follow if the patient is unable to make a decision for themselves due to being unconscious, not of sound mind, etc...), and who will ultimately be making the decisions for them if the patient can't make a decision. The advanced directives are what the patient wants, but in some cases, the next of kin/appointed decision maker can override the advanced directives.
This has nothing to do with Denny, as I know nothing about his situation, but the questions the nurse was asking is purely a quality of life issue. As an RN, I need to know to what lengths my patients want us to go through to keep their heart beating. We can do alot of amazing things to keep people alive (tracheotomies, feeding tubes, colostomies, dialysis, etc...), but being alive doesn't mean anything if you don't have an acceptable quality of life. Not saying things are going to go bad for Denny, but if they do the hospital needs to know what lengths it would be acceptable for them to go to.
Positive thoughts going to Denny.
