Ha ha ha! I'm right there with you bro. I'll be 32 this year and I've never rolled at class or in competition healthy. Somethings always tweaked but once I'm on the mats I just don't care. Probably not gonna be able to walk when I'm 35.

I've been learning/training (with Jon and Co) the past few weeks and in a span of 3 weeks got a sore back, then had my nose tapped (light blood thank God for my mouthguard absorbing most of the impact) and this week tweaked my ankle. I'm 29, so glad I started picking this up now.....

I am also pretty injury prone, I leave each class with a new injury and they are healing slower than I get them. Lower back, shoulder, tennis elbow, left rear ribs, right knee and added a jammed finger yesterday. What I realized over the last couple months is that I give most of these injuries my self, trying a weird pass or an all strength/athleticism type sweep. Moves that are not based on technique tend to put a lot of stress on bones, joints and tendons hence most of the injures. You can't prevent all of them, but by rolling smart you can avoid a great deal of them.

I dont know what it is about me but I am not injury prone. Ever since I was a kid I have been a skater and have taken some nasty fucking falls, the kind most people break limbs and shit, and only come out with scrapes. As for bjj, the worst that has ever happened was that my arms get sore after rolling and that doesnt even happen to me anymore! To be fair, I am pretty flexible, I make strectching/yoga a HUGE part of my fitness, not just a quick warm up before I work out or roll. Seriously been in way too many scenarios that I should have been severely hurt and only got minor injuries. Oh and I heal rather quick too. Either I am just plain lucky or I am wolverines cousin...

I barely walk now (without looks anyway), and I'm 30.

This is exactly what I needed to read. I've been getting injured a lot the past 2 years. Bruised sternum, pulled muscles, possible torn groin (which Im nursing right now), and a jacked up shoulder. My gf told me last night that maybe I should quit JJ all together. Um..NO! I refuse to die. Im almost 31, and am not getting any younger. Time to heal and get back in there. But knowing that Im not the only one this happens to, makes me feel a little better.
