    but i mean, immediately after. like the moment you get submitted, while you are catching your breath, grab a small notebook and start writing.

    should look something like this:
    pulled into his guard, marcello pass, twister side, tip-toe mount, skydive...etc...
    just list it thing by thing. even if you dont know all the names yet.
    ie- guard pass, side guard looking at knees, leg over mount, locking legs in mount...etc

    pretty basic, but i make sure when they write it, that I can read it. otherwise they cheat. haha

    and homework...yes.
    there is always homework for those who want to get more out of it.
    if its just for shits and giggles...dont listen. but then ill be having them doing shrimping drills all day.
    learn what you are weak at, and try and find something online (youtube or here generally...) that will help them next time.

    for example, i have this kid who is DYNAMITE on his feet, but gasses in 30 secs on the mats. he cant control his breathing.
    so...i have him look up yoga breathing techniques. (WAITING for Rebel Yoga!!!! )

    every time he comes, hes better...and i can always tell WHO does their homework.

    Certain aspects of all sports require more flexibility and technique than muscle.
    When I played baseball going into high school, we had several pitchers who
    were very good. Some of them worked their pitching going into their growth spurt,
    some of them worked their strength. Within the next few years, after we all
    conquered puberty, the ones who mostly lifted could no longer pitch. They got
    too bulky to sling the ball the way they used to. You could see their technique
    slowly drain as their shoulders and chest got bigger. They had to short arm everything
    after that.

    For strictly JJ, I think a gymnast'esque work out is the best. Small, tight muscles
    that don't prevent you from having the flexibility you want. Working out without
    weights, and focusing on using your body as resistance will help tighten up your
    muscles. If you truly are going into MMA with a goal of being in something as big
    as the UFC, you're gonna want some of that mass.

    You're already in the workout mindset, so I don't think taking a break from it will
    cause you to lose your will if you need to get back into it to get bigger again.

    And as said before, stretch, stretch, stretch....especially if you're going to keep
    a large physique, stretch those fucking muscles out and keep your flexibility.

    I switched all my "Weight lifting" to crossfit style workouts but still do my high intensity interval conditioning for fight/comp training. And like was stated before stretching.

    Its more like:

    Tues, 14 Jun '11: Today I got caught in 3 triangles from the same setup. I should check out with my coach some defenses to the exact setup this guy likes, maybe go on the 10th Planet site and see if anybody can help me. I will then drill this with a willing person, but not the guy who did it to me. I will then proceed to roll with this guy, and work my triangle defense.

    If you successfully defend or escape his triangles, then you've been successful with your notes.
