Seriously, our corner gave me so many pointers and helped me adjust mid game. Also there's something that really does give you more drive and energy mid fight to pull off the moves you need when you have your corner rallying for you using clear and concise tactical data. I couldn't have done it without my team. Ty Miami Hotbox. Ty 10th Planet Community for your support. Yeah, I was told that wrist locks were illegal at the beginning of the tournament over the mic. I've never trained how to apply or defend them, and my opponent slaps one on me to get pain compliance. I say "ow" or "ahhh" and ask the ref if wrist locks are legal, and he stops the fight. My opponent apologized to me because he didn't know they were illegal, but he got the win anyway. Ref's call was "verbal submission." I've never heard or seen wrist locks in novice adult divisions. Are they legal and if so what's a good place to research training methods to defend em?

Yeah theyre legal. just keep your wrists strong and keep moving and hunting for subs. Theyre hard to get unless youre stationary and its more difficult for your opponent to get when hes constantly defending your attacks.

Also, the guy that beat Kiko won the nogi worlds in 2010 and is a blue belt. He told Kiko after the stupid wrist lock thing that he was sorry but he is sandbagging because he wanted a medal.

I know sandbagging makes people mad, but I actually wasn't mad since he was so honest about it. Plus I'm just happy to healthy enough to compete with guys my age and the 18-29 year old powerhouses. It's all right Brandon, all this means is I have to get good enough to beat the sandbaggers in my division =D.
