As far as I can tell you're expected to train in both Gi and NoGi if you expect to be promoted at Marcelo Garcia Academy. I don't think he'd ever promote students in NoGi jiu jitsu only. I've spoken with him about Gi vs NoGi and there is no question Marcelo feels the Gi is important in your jiu jitsu training.

I've only seen Marcelo use 10th Planet terminology once -in referring to the "lockdown". There's a lot of overlap between what Marcelo teaches and what Eddie teaches (butterfly guard, sweeps, guard passes, arm bar, etc) but I've never seen Marcelo teach a hardcore 10th Planet technique like Mission Control or Spider Web. He's very fond of Eddie however.

The academy has some really nice shorts and rash guards. They come out with new ones pretty often and the designs are nice. You can get some of them at the online store: http://www.marcelogarciastore.com/index.html

Finally, having visited 10th Planet headquarters last year, I can assure you that the Marcelo academy has the same, open, friendly and inviting environment that Eddie's academy has.

They sell both at the academy and usually on the site as well. I would check the link again in a few days.

Myself, as well as a number of other 10th Planet students have visited Marcelo's academy in NYC. I can say that all the guys there are very talented and super friendly. It is an awesome environment.

Thanks for the post Ric. This is probably one of the best threads on these forums.

I love to see a class having that much fun. I'll definitely be visiting the MG school on my next visit to NYC (whenever that might be)!
