10th Planet Black Belt & Head Coach Extraordinaire Ian Pomfret, our head coach and the official Moonhead (a title given to owners of 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu gyms), is a powerhouse in the world of martial arts. A 10th Planet Black Belt under the legendary Jay Watkins and Eddie Bravo, Ian brings over 16 years of experience spanning Wrestling, Judo, Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and, of course, Jiu Jitsu. Ian’s competitive record is nothing short of exceptional. With a stellar 6-1 MMA record and over 100 Jiu Jitsu competitions under his belt, Ian once held the #1 state ranking in two weight classes, achieved a top 20 ranking in the Midwest, and climbed into the top 35 nationwide. While he has temporarily stepped away from competing to focus on coaching and building an elite team, Ian is gearing up for an explosive return to the cage in 2025. For Ian, coaching isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling. He’s deeply passionate about helping others discover their love for Jiu Jitsu and MMA, guiding athletes of all levels to realize their potential both on and off the mats. Ian’s dedication, technical mastery, and infectious enthusiasm create an environment where students thrive and push past their limits.
