Difference Between Berimbolo, De La Riva, Etc. ?

Hi guys, first time posting.

I was just wondering if someone here could define the Berimbolo, Reverse De La Riva, Spiral, and regular De La Riva for me. Also Kiss of the Dragon- that's just a sweep from Berimbolo, right?

I couldn't find a clear explanation on Google.

All of those techniques are different and require alot of detail to explain effectively. Would be pretty hard to do that in a post. I'm sure you can find examples and explanations of each on youtube

Here are the Mendes Bros. showing the gi version of the no-gi sweep that we call the "kiss of the dragon" or the "spiral guard sweep" or just "spiraling from downed guard" at my gym. We refer to the starting position as "spiral guard" or "reverse de la riva". Since we are a no-gi only gym we just grab the hips at the end instead of the belt to pull him down.

It could be that our nomenclature varies from others, so please someone else chime in if you have a different understanding.

Here are two videos where guys show a "no-gi berimbolo". There is a video of Rafa Mendes hitting it on a guy in Japan. But, for my own personal game, I still haven't seen anything that makes me think the berimbolo works in no-gi.

Spiral guard and reverse de la riva are the same thing, spiral and de la riva are both guards or positions

The berimbolo is a sweep or back take executed from the de la riva guard

The kiss of the dragon is a back take/sweep from spiral/reverse de la riva guard

The de la riva "hook" is the foot/leg that snakes around the other guy, pretty much when you go from the outide it is the de la riva guard, when going from the inside it is the spiral guard

But, for my own personal game, I still haven't seen anything that makes me think the berimbolo works in no-gi.

I use it regularly. It failed at first, but then I got more precise in my tech. It's like climbing while spinning.

Any time I reach my rear leg past his far hip in De LaRiva I refer to it as "going berimbolo". This locks his hips combined with ankle control. Learning to move and climb while keeping him trapped is the trick.

I almost guarantee vids of nogi berimblolo being effectively used in comp from the swim team after our next tournament in intermediate and advanced level. Combined with spiral it is a phenomenal way to play a standing guard pass, or combat stance. Or even double guard for that matter.

Berimbolo works no gi, you won't always get the back but a sweep comes from it also, depends how they defend, its great when they stay up and just float over you and you end up on the back

We have a rule in the gym, when it happens you have to yell BERIMBOLO, well, not really a rule, I just do it...
