Thanx Vlad!! I want to correct you just a little bit:-) If you really want to be good in Jiu Jitsu I also think you need to do both, the fact is that 99% of the top 10 (every weight class NOGI) Jiu Jitsu players has at least started out with Gi in their career.
BUT for MMA ( if Your arenīt the best stand up guy in the world and donīt need to train any of the wrestling, boxing and thaiboxing) I believe that you shouldnīt train with Gi! it really doesnīt improve your game in the speed you want it to and the game/rules are very different. Most MMA guys donīt have that much time to spend on each part they are training.
Just as an example! When Im training Paul "Semtex" Daley we only train the bottom game (Lockdown with all variations of reversals) to escape and get up to standing, because Paul is one of the hardest hitting guy in the world! He shouldnīt even be at the ground whatsoever. Since we started he hasnīt lost one single match and he is really getting awesome at Lockdown. Paul goes to work on his Thaiboxing at Mikeīs gym in Holland and also in Thailand and for wrestling he brings Kenny Johnson, why would he put on a Gi and when would he have the time:-)?.
This is just my point of view:-)
