That rule is most likely there for the same reason I always make sure I'm wearing clean underwear when I'm rolling in the gi. When the pants' waistband is used as a grip, your underwear is very likely to see the light of day. If a women is wearing a thong, it may be deemed inappropriate in a tournament setting. So you only wear clean underwear when you roll in the gi? So when you roll no Gi u leave the dirty ones on?
