I need help currently with defending the twister pass (they call it the hip across pass on my gym). Anyhow my electric chair dogfight game has been getting so good at my gym that everyone is giving me their backs and preventing the lockdown. What do I do from here. I have tried undercooking and rolling and it works sometimes, I have also tried grabbing towards the head and rolling. Any other options? Thanks you for the help in advance.
There it is. You can see the hip bump sweep to top half is there as well. You just move the elbow from the lat to over hooking the hip, and roll up into top half.
Hip bump to top half is golden, Hip bump to the back is goldener.
Today was the first day I really actively put this into use since we did positional sparring from the guard. Grabbing the belt and trapping the guy with your grip made it like taking candy from a baby.
Nice! Definitely trying that. What do you guys go to if the guy has that shoulder pressure on your jaw and you still kinda have an underhook? Fight to clear the arm to get to this kinda setup or is there another go to for that.
Try to insert a butterfly hook to his top leg. there's a few options with your hands, but I first try to get a grip or shallow overlook on my opponents exposed (top) elbow, and with the other hand cross face his neck or chin. Then elevate with the butterfly hook toward your head as you scoot your hips out and take his back. Hard to explain exactly, but really concentrate on getting that butterfly hook and you can play with the position. The big no-no is to avoid getting your arms too deep or else you can get kimura'd if your opponent is looking for it.
Here is Marcel Garcia doing the counter I was talking about in his roll with Demian Maia (!). Marcelo does it more with his classic 'suicide hook' since he's not really a half guard player, but same concept. The sweep is :30 into the video. Notice in particular how Marcelo controls Maia's elbow before doing the sweep:
