    Spiderweb question

When going to the spiderweb from the mount, why do you hook the leg before bringing your leg over his head? If you just fall back to hook the leg, couldnt he just roll up to his knees and stack you (which is what the leg over the head would prevent)?

Hooking the leg keeps your opponent from spinning out to his knees which prevents him from having leverage to stack you.

Putting the leg over the head does not always prevent the stack. Hooking the leg first, however, and then throwing the leg over, will usually stop any stack attempt made. It offers MUCH more control.

Exactly, hooking the leg will stop the stack, not hooking the leg will not stop the stack

Hook the leg on the same side as the arm you are armbaring. If you hook the far leg, you will pull him to his knees.

Exactly. As long as you have control of that leg he cant stack because you have control. Remember, for him to stack, his far hip would have to get higher than the leg you're controlling. If he tries to stack, you can give a little tug or even lift and it neutralizes his attempt and allows you to keep control.

If you notice the way Eddie hooks the leg, he hooks the near leg and goes back and forth from hugging that leg and checking the far leg. Some people like to throw that far leg over your head so using that same hand to do both jobs.
