OMG!! ok i just read the thread, im not reading 13 pages of responces now. The guy fucked up, just mute his posts for a month. slap his hand and move on. Not really, the paper here mentions anytime anyone gets an honorary degree from the local universities. They often go through a list of other awardees. They tend to be people who have some level of fame.....not hollywood fame necessarily.....so thus, looking at the complete lists......is "seems" most of them were already well known people, because they were in fact.

If you are familiar with all the people the universities give honorary degree to, that would be a pretty damn impressive knowledge base you have. However, I doubt it.

A large majority of honorary degrees, whether science based, humanities or business are given to people who are icons in their field, not to people who don't know squat about quantum mechanics, for example.

I will give you that the difference is that the honorary graduates don't have to jump through the hoops like the regular graduates. Kind of like how Rashad barely wore the gi, like most schools demand you do before you get promoted; show loyalty to a BB gi instructor, where Rashad's main instructor is Greg Jackson, not Rolles Gracie, or go through blue, purple, brown black, where even some of the best no-gi guys, even with extensive ADCC experience had to do.

I am not trying to knock you, but there are guys much better than Rashad who had to get their black belt the hard way, and many qualified browns who just won't have someone hand them a black, even if they are at that level.

Dont disagree about Rashad. Also seems folks getting honorary degrees from universities also tend to be big contributors financially as often or even more often than huge operators in the field or even famous people. Its not like the local universities here give out a ton of em anyway, so its not as if we are talking thousands of people (you do realize I am talking about 3 universities close together in one state, and US universities in general I hope).

Also, though we are getting waaaay off topic, its not like state universities are hard to see who gets honorary degrees. Its pretty much point and click, and in the spirit of debate I took a quick peek at this past year's awardees and its a list of folks on TV, who have written books, or who have extremely high profile jobs (ie in the public eye...a little famous even). So again, I guess it could vary greatly in some places, but since the ones I have seen in the paper over the years were famous/semi famous folks it sort of colored my opinion. Looking back at the list, has not changed that opinion too much. I guess harvard's might look more academic.

its just like when joe rogan said matt hughes doesnt train jiu jitsu in a ranked system like a gi school or no gi whatever. but if youd have to give him a rank it would be black belt.

I didn't read all the comments on this thread because the other took a lot out of me.

Seems like it all started as a misunderstanding.. like his original post.. which was impressively long along with the rest...(he does think incredibly highly of himself which was slightly annoying... just because you're confident etc.. doesn't mean you can command respect.. and probably the reason everything got out of hand so quick).

but I think the point he was making.. mixed in there somewhere was that you shouldn't assume things about people you don't know(which I absolutely agree with... probably a prime source of conflict between people.. making blind assumptions).

Past that it became even more keyboard warrior.. you seriously can't demand respect.. thats just incredibly ridiculous imo. Especially when a grown man is being a keyboard warrior.. you'd assume they've matured to a certain level by that age.

As far as if hes good or bad for 10th planet.. I don't believe in an ideal world, censorship etc.. we need the saints that do no wrong, the everyday person that dabbles in both, and the douche bags etc.. list could go on forever. As long as there is a "base" level of respect between parties all is good imo.. did he cross that?!? everyones obviously going to have different opinions.

I should say.. based on his posts.. I don't like him.. at that age you absolutely should know how to act towards your superiors. If I was to guess his age based on his posts I would have said its a 13 year old trolling everyone. Him posting or being part of the system etc.. doesn't bother me though... regardless of who they are(as long as the base level of respect is intact which isn't necessarily there lol)..Everyone always has something to offer..
