well you know they want to put linux on it so folks can customized the crap out of it...it's generally harmless. However, sony kows if they allow or support it they would have a crap load of problems with kids bricking their systems and expecting sony to fix it. The reason it has a locked in interface is so they will not have more problems to fix, not because they are somehow against freedome and power to the players.

yeah they got rid of the linux capability ages ago, so only people who did it before can have it. but it was the same update that gave us the 3D Blu-ray player, so worth it
