Judo throws for MMA and Submission Grappling

Besides leg locks I teach a little judo at 10th Planet Riverside.
I saw Shonnie Carter pull of Harai Goshi one of my favorite Judo
throws in a MMA fight. Shonnie being an All American wrestler and
a brown or black belt in Judo. It easy to adjust from gi judo throws
to no-gi judo throws.

Here are some of my favorite judo throws that work for MMA and
Submission Wrestling. Tani Otoshi and O Goshi are some of the first
Judo throws that they teach at the Gracie Academy in Torrance.
I already had a black belt in Judo when I trained there.

* Harai Goshi Sweeping Hip Throw

That's an interesting book. I have that book too plus Karo's No-Gi Judo throws DVDs.

Karo Uchi-mata is my favorite judo video/technique. Its so easy to turn a failed Uchi-mata into a single leg or other basic wrestling techniques. Im still on the fence with no-gi judo take downs without an over-hook or an under-hook cuz I dont want my back taken when we hit the ground, but some Judo peoples seem to not have a problem with it lately. Would be awesome if someone came out with a no-gi judo defense instructional or book.

This is a great counter throw that I used a lot in practice and when I competed in Judo.
When somebody goes to throw you and turns their back to you use it.
After years of judo I started training at the Gracie Academy and this was one
of the first techniques they teacg. It's on the Gracie basic instructionals.
With or without the gi it works.

Wow really interesting grip by ronda, i noticed she did that in her strikeforce fights too but wasn't sure if it was just in the heat of the moment. It looks like she's modified a bunch of her throws by grabbing her opponents neck instead of the traditional spot of the tricep/elbow or behind the back. Have to try that out.
