I totally agree with the UFC building a foolish card. They took a huge risk in hoping that neither guy would get hurt and it back fired. So in that respect I totally agree. But again, my thing is that the UFC made Jon Jones. There would be no Jon Jones without the UFC. He'd have no title to defend. He'd have no Bentley to crash. They sponsor him. They fast tracked him to the title. After everything they've done to help him (even with all the recent bad press surrounding his DUI), the least he can do is help them out when THEY are in a bind. Jones is not SOLELY to blame. But his decision definitely reflects negatively on him.
All the ufc did was give him a shot to prove himself, and he has.
Personal problems aside, he has the belt, and he earned it by going through to top of the 205 division.
He wasn't obligated to take the fight, so he really did nothing wrong.
It might be a shot at his character (as though anyone would give a fuck if they had more reasons to dislike him already), but he didn't do anything he couldn't do, so it's not his fault.
The ufc is responsible for the UFC.
They put so much faith in his star power alone, that they made a single fight main event, with no co main event to fall back on.
That is 100% their fault, and every has been saying how the UFC is coddling Jones and giving him a shit load of extra opportunities on the off chance that he will be their new golden boy.
I am just perplexed at how people aren't calling out the UFC for doing this, and laughing at how it's biting them in the ass now.
so many people thought this card was an insult, as though people will pay for anything simply because Jones is fighting on the card.
Well, they clearly had no faith in the rest of the fighters on that card, so the UFC canceled all their fights, and financially hurt them.
Not Jones.
And now Dana is in blame mode, acting as though this card falling apart is all Jones's fault, as though he made a weak card that relied on 2 fighters staying healthy up till fight day.
And all these guys saying a champ should fight anyone any time no matter what, well, why did Machida turn the fight down?
If it's anytime anywhere then why would a former champ turn down a fight with the current champ for any reason?
