London... Did it really have to go?

Ok guys, bear with me... but if you get to London and then lock your closed guard back up, (which nullifies the escape shown here) how is that not an awesome position to be in? It is IMPOSSIBLE to get punched and there are like a dozen submission options available.

    Drop some knowledge on me.

Thanks for posting that video; I really appreciate it. I watched basically the whole thing and the foot is always in the hip, so I am still left wondering... If you just lock your closed guard in London, isn't that the solution??

Many guys still go to it for a moment in a few spots, but to me it’s generally inferior to other options. Yeah there are options, but you could usually be in invisible collar or another strong position if you could get there (usually). And that would be better. Eliminating things that don’t work as well is just as important as adding new things for growth. That’s said, I can think of at least one 10th Planet Black belt that hasn’t stopped grabbing it from time to time.

London or Williams Guard is gold - Braulio uses it regularly and one of his training partners Ronnie Mann, used it brilliantly in his last Cagewarriors bout to set up a gogoplata, it was awesome.

Yes, but isn't that true of every closed guard attack?

I started using london and the clamp after a knee injury. I still wanted to clinch and break their posture but didn't want to put any lateral stress on my knee. I got pretty confident in my setups so I still use them along with rg.
