Hey Guys,
So as part of my warmups I recently starting adding defensive techniques to the core 6 submissions (arm bar, triangle, omoplata, guillotine, kimura and RNC) that are pretty much universal among all Jiu Jitsu academies. I think this is just as important as drilling offense techniques and sweeps...especially if you are a competitor or new to Jiu Jitsu. For me...this is bringing my game to a new level because it allows me to work my offense without having to be overly worried about getting caught in submissions. I now start off every sparring session in one of the 6 submissions above (fully locked in) and try to work my way out. While recognizing a submission setup before it happens is always preferred, knowing I have a few extra lives in my bag of tricks if I make a mistake gives me an added confidence. What do you guys think?? Is this something that should be added into the 10th planet warmups?
