    Hip Bump Escape to X-Guard

    Hi guys,

I've heard Eddie talk about an escape he uses from mount a lot to get into the 'honey hole' and get a heel hook (I haven't actually seen it - so please feel free to link if you have).

I've been working on a mount escape I got from Marcelo recently:
Hip Bump - Right knee through middle - Left Leg swings over and braces against hip.

Marcelo says the key is to keep all three knees tight (your two and opponent's) and facing the same direction. You can then turn in, turn away or turn away-turn in-turn away if you need the momentum. This earns you a sweep.

What I've found is that if you elevate your right knee and you kick your left foot out you have a straight foot lock right there waiting for you. You need to be careful that you look after the foot on your opponent's side, of course or they have one too. I look to roll to my side and finish from there.

I was just wondering whether this was a pretty common mount escape / what I should be watching out for and so on.

If people struggle to envision it I can always film it later… I think the Marcelo videos are behind paywalls, etc.

Note: Marcelo's sites lists it as 'one leg X Guard' or 'partial X Guard'

Straight away I knew you were talking about Single leg x guard, aka 1 leg x guard, OLX, Anaconda Guard, Footlock Guard or Lagarto Guard. If you are on MGinaction you definitely have the best resource out there on the position. While its not a really common mount escape, its definitely not uncommon.

Im sure you could also find a lot of stuff by searching mount escape lock, or mount escape hook, or mount escape followed by types of leg locks on youtube.
