The first guy I ever rolled with had done half the six week course (does that make him blue/purple belt). I had a wee play with the BJJ guys and he was one of the Muay Thai/MMA guys training. As I walked past him on the way out he goes "let me tap you once before you go, will only take a minute". I took his back and rear naked choked him in 20 seconds. On my first night. Later a guy half his size dominated him on his first night and the guy stayed off the mats after that.

They do it so they can offer BJJ at their gyms. Usually MMA. There are gyms like that locally.

I have seen a blackbelt destroyed on the ground by a white belt who had trained with one of Flavio Behrings Blackbelts in a local MMA fight.

yo Tim that's funny as hell, you went through that dude's " Fake Ass " black belt on your first night, ha ha ha !! you know the problem is that to learn jiu jitsu & the time it takes before it suddenly " Clicks " can be a very long process & no doubt requires Dedication & no Bullshitting around. So Jiu Jitsu is best learned at a " Jiu Jitsu only " school, not " MMA schools " you can't spend 1 hour on jits, 1 hour on wrestling, 1 hour on muy thai, and develope a " World Class " jiu jitsu game, especially the guard. You have to spend all three hours on jiu jitsu, and then go to a muy thai school for your muy thai, and a wrestling camp for your wrestling. Jiu Jitsu is the most " Complex " of martial arts and should be treated as such.

So curiosity finally got the better of me and I checked to see what manner of wizardry this thread was about.

So I completely agree and was sickened when Randy got his BB. I thought it was a terrible move by all involved and I'm not buying that Randy is a black belt, there's just no way. And yes, Jacare is one of the best ever, but Randy outweighed him and all he did was "survive". Most good wrestlers, if focused on simply surviving, can do so. I just don't buy that Randy has put in the time and reps to build a tight and super-technical game that would put him at that level....

...for that matter, I think the same thing about RASHAD EVANS...thats also RIDICULOUS.

It's a GD mockery of the art and makes me a very sad panda.

Gokor Chivichian is a 9th degree redbelt in Judo, 6th black in Jiu Jitsu and 6th black in Sambo. When he moved to L.A. he supposedly created the "Hayastian Grappling System" which Karo is a part of, so to answer in what that guy actually is a blackbelt it seams to me hes talking about that Hayastian system.. which is by the way, a pretty badass looking system. The students from Gokors school seam to have great success in all sorts of tournaments.
