Hey guys, just filling in the 10th P fam on our Training Blog tonight.
First we started class off focusing on our Hand Battling and Pummeling techniques, followed up with a 5 Minute Grind Match to utilize the same set up's for takedowns. After we got the blood flowing, we took a 15 Minute Break from standard class structure, and allowed everyone to pick something they know they need improvement on & work on it. The guys were great partners, and stayed busy! Individually everyone had been worked with to tighten up their technique.
Quick water break before an intense 20 minute circuit station cardio drill!
- Then we decided to switch it up a bit and try something fun.
Introduced something today that i used to do to prepare for my Wrestling matches back in the day. (lol) Typically we would use blindfolds, but we did it a little differently. We decided we would focus on our guard work....IN THE DARK! Yes with the lights off, that way the guys and girls can focus primarily on the positioning fundamentals instead of always visibly finding the opening. I think it reminded everyone just how important it is to keep good posture, head up, and not to have a sloppy top game. We did some rotations so everybody got to switch with the entire class, and it seemed to be a hit! Everyone loved it. Got a lot of guys away from their standard smash and pass style, and instead we got them using their brains.
Not to mention we had Trent Flegel back in the house tonight! For those that do not know Trent, he competes in the NCAA's at 197lbs. and is currently ranked 3rd in the Nation in his respective class. (Iowa)
