A white belts journey through the system.

Hey guys, for this to make sense and for people to see where I'm coming from, I'll quickly explain what has happened to my club over the past few weeks. The place where our gym was located had a nice set up but due to a few things going wrong with money and someone else who held classes there getting in the way and not cleaning up after himself, we had to move to a smaller location until January (2015) some time till we get back on our feet. We're a relatively new club (open 2 years or so) but thanks to the power of an open mind, we're starting to dominate local competitions. We have some decent numbers in our classes, some days can be quiet but our regulars are putting in the effort and its paying off. We're trying to advertise as much as possible to get rid of those quiet days but here's where the title of this thread comes into play.

One of my best friends who thought me almost everything I know in jiu jitsu brought up the idea of doing some instructional youtube videos, his way of trying to show Eddie how well we're doing being 10th Planet Ronins in Ireland in competitions, studying the system constantly. It was just a thought at first but it got me thinking, what if we did this as a club thing, it could be great for advertising if we plan it properly and do it well, include footage of rolling, classes being thought, drills and other stuff. Similar to MTS but not as an instructional, more to do with the journey for a dedicated team of 10th Planet Ronins from white to black, to show the evolution of our guys and even to hopefully hear some feedback from you guys to tell us some of the important parts we're missing.

It's just an idea but an idea that I think could help us improve and grow as a club.
What do you guys think of this?

Keep in mind you can't use the 10th Planet name in any advertising at all unless you're an official moon or hotbox, and hotboxes can't benefit financially from using the name in any way. Avoid doing anything instructional as well, as there are limits on what rank you have to be to post those. I'm sure Herzog will state the full rules when he sees this.

As far as posting your competition videos, that's actively encouraged and is part of the requirements to become an actual hotbox.

Yeah I assumed I wouldn't be able to use the 10th Planet name but we're hoping it will be evident in our rolling.

Sounds like a cool idea man. I think it would be real cool if it was more of a journey/documentary as opposed to instructionals. Like Dylan said, posting competition videos is encouraged and they are everywhere on this Forum.

I just know it would be sick as fuck to see videos like this and in a couple years time, maybe sooner, be able to chart the beginnings of a 10th Planet in Ireland - from where you guys are now to full affiliation. Just make sure you're wearing 10P shorts, rashies, etc :P

According to the dude who runs the shop for 10th Planet, my rashguard and grappling tights have been shipped and i'll have them soon! Just in time for a competition/possible belt promotion (in BJJ though) and i'll look slick in my white alien rashy and tights Videos will be provided after July 12th! ;D

Just so you know, if you're a Blue Belt in BJJ you're a Blue in 10th Planet as well and can wear a ranked rashguard

Really? I thought they were completely separate. I thought Joe Rogan got his black belt in bjj then got his black belt in 10pjj separate? I'm just a white belt in BJJ anyway, my club is an affiliate with Team Ryano in Dublin (where UFC fighter Neil Seery trains) and although my head coach is a Sambo master, we can't grade BJJ except for when we visit Team Ryano. First night I went up there to Ryano, I got thrown to the wolves basically in a 1 and a half hour iron man/shark tank (Glad it happened) and after I survived that, I was given 2 stripes. Hoping to impress at a competition on the 12th July now and get more stripes or a brand new colour

If you were a Team Ryano Blue and you started training at a 10th Planet school you'd still be a Blue belt. The only rank that doesn't cross over is Black, if you are a BJJ Black Belt then you'd become a 10th Planet Brown Belt. That's why Joe had to get his 10P Black Belt even though he was a JJM Black, and also why guys like Tait Fletcher are Brown belts (10P) even though they are BJJ Black Belts.

Actually, Joe got his black belt from Eddie first, in June 2012, and then from JJ Machado, in Sept 2012.
