    Thanks so more or less no heel hooks for me until intermediate competition yet all these high level guys are destroying with leg attacks

    Whether or not you can do heel hooks will depend on the rules of the competition. If they allow heel hooks in your division, then you can do heel hooks. Reaping the knee has nothing to do with that though. If the competition doesn't allow leg reaping, you need to get better detail as to what their exact rules for reaping are. Most tournaments go by the ibjjf rules, but Gracie Tournaments have their own definition of reaping.
