Unwritten rules of Jiujitsu.. (sorry if its already a post)

For those of us who arent too familiar with them and want to avoid being "That guy".. I only know a few.. so feel free to add some more.

    #1.. cut your nails..

    #2.. use Deodorant..

#3.. When a higher belt rank is showing you something they feel you need to know.. dont cut them off with "yeah i already know that", chances are.. if you are anything like me, you dont know every detail of every move.. otherwise you wouldnt have need of a gym.

#4. If your sparring in class.. then spar in class.. No need to break someones arm or torque on a heel hook until you hear something pop..

#5. (this is where you guys come in, add anything else you feel needs to be on this list)

    No particular order for me:

    1) Make sure your breath is reasonable (brush your teeth/rinse out ur mouth, use breath spray/mint beforehand).
    2) If u have facial hair don't press ur chin/beard excessively into someone (near their neck, face).
    3) Make sure your rash guard/shorts smell reasonable (if u forgot to wash them/they've been in the sun then spray them down with some body spray beforehand). Ditto grappling gloves
    4) For ur own sanitary rinse ur mouthgaurd before u put it in (and brush it out here and there).
    5) If u have more than 20lbs on someone be careful if u both go down (like takedowns) don't kumquat squash them (not cool).

    And of course....have fun!!!

Let the instructor instruct. If I'm having problems with a move let the person teaching it fix my mistakes...(unless of course your drilling with another instructor, you know what i mean I'm sure u have trained with one of those guys b4)

    All of the above.

When your training partner is trying to drill the technique, let them. We are in the gym to learn.
Don't be counter productive. Second guessing the instructor's every word is a distraction. If you have a question, wait until he is done with what he is teaching and ask questions while others are drilling.
Don't be Unproductive. I promise you 5 times on each side does not mean "you got it". Drill it until the instructor stops you and tells you it's time for the next technique.
There is nothing shameful about getting tapped. My motto is if you aren't getting tapped, you aren't training with the right team. You should NEVER be the biggest fish in the pond, you will never get better if you are.

    +1 to everybody's post!

I'll just add a couple of things, not really 10 commandments of jiu jitsu or anything but perhaps worth mentioning in my humble opinion. In no particular order:

1.) Clean the mats after/before every practice. Find out who does it at your gym, and volunteer to do it if ppl are slacking. 5 minutes of mopping are way better than a month of anitbitics, bactrobahn cream, and no rolling.

2.) Roll with everybody, even if you are better than them. I.E. Don't be "too good" to roll with certain ppl. I guess it all goes back to leaving your ego at the door. Its good to roll with everybody to get a chance to work weak side moves or things you dont usually do when you're playing your A game, and at the same time rolling with dudes that are much better than you is a sure way to grow as a player.

3.) Learn ppls names. It makes for a better atmosphere when you actually get to know your training partners. Not just, "I'm gonna roll with the balled tattooed guy next." I think in the long run it prevents injuries b/c you're less likely to crank a sub out on someone who's a nice person.

4.)All the previous post pretty much nailed it. Don't interrupt instructors, but don't be afraid to ask legit questions either, don't be afraid to tap, be clean, be cool, be kind! lol

    Good training everyone.
