He went up through the ranks in Gi though. Besides, not everyone is Eddie Bravo.

but I still don't understand KZA comment.

that's interesting that you use 10PJJ as a back up. I would think 10PJJ were go-to's for everyone here.
why i use every thing i start at closed guard depending where the guy goes if he stacks me i find it easier to go to mission control and break him down from there if he doesnt i move to the lockdown and play from there some times i'll just scissor sweep a guy and go right to mount end of the day i just want to tap a guy and i'll use what ever i can to do it

That is usually the case yes Max. Makes sense too. If you are a black belt in any system it means you have mastered it. If you are a black belt in the Gi, but haven't mastered the 10th Planet system, you are technically a Brown Belt in the 10th Planet system. And I'm pretty sure most Gi guys feel the same way when it's reversed.

why are most champions in jiu jitsu and submission grappling, primary gi players?? how often are pure nogi players ever that good????? Everyone looks to eddie bravo as an example but he was brought up through gi system. Im pround to be a 10th planet blue for MMA reasons but as far as pure jiu jitsu competition ill stick to jean jacques bjj (in which i am a white belt for gi).

it goes back to the whole greco roman wrestling vs judo concept. If the world only did Judo and then they had Greco roman wrestling the judo guys would probably win the first couple of olympics until the greco players got better. Then the judo guys would start losing to primarily no gi wrestlers that develop sick underhooks and overhooks. It takes time for a new sport to get great representatives. Most gi guys winning worlds have been doing bjj for over 20 yrs vs a guy doing only no gi for 6 or 7. thats a big gap I dont care what youre wearing. the reps have been done. Besides Otto Olsen lost to Marcelo in the finals of Abu Dhabi and he was only a wrestler beating BJJ guys so sometimes the best representative will win no matter what style. Check out Rustam Chsiev tearing everyone up with only Sambo background. Its only a matter of time before the whole debate ends

In my view, i am ranked a blue belt in bjj i havent worn a gi coming up two years i just prefer no gi its faster, i enjoy the gi but its another breed of animal, but back to the point if i was to do 10PJJ i would be a muppet beginner who only knows of the rubber guard not how to do it, but my no gi game is still ok but i would consider myself a white belt in the 10PJJ world. id probly be a white in Gi BJJ now to since i cant remember what a lepal is haha. ah f@#k the ranking system just enjoy the bloody sport.
