I see what your saying now. Adding in some strength training is not a bad idea at all, more lean muscle mass will burn calories all day long. One of the guys at the one gym has very short legs, but he is extremely powerful, he uses butterfly to get you where he wants you at, then he legs locks/ankle/toe hold and his grapevines kill you. Some moves are just not designed for all body types. I bet you tear people in half in judo side control

I can tell you right now it's your diet that's the problem. You burn way more calories doing Jiu Jitsu then any of those other exercises you talked of. If there some moves you cant do because of your size don't do them work on something else. I always struggle with my weight and I know now after trying every workout ever made that weight loss is 99% diet.

i wouldn't stop doing jiu jitsu, if certain techniques don't work for your frame then you can usually adapt them. i got promoted at work a year ago to the office and put on a little weight then about 4 months ago i got injured, i worked through it at first but then thought id take some time off to heal. that time off was over xmas & new year so not doing anything i put on more weight. still my injury has not fully healed (wrist ligaments), but fed up of not doing anything and putting on weight i am back drilling & light rolling at the gym so not to aggravate my wrist, ive started running home from work ( i hate running ) and also work out at home to hopefully burn some of my unwanted fat off.

Judo side control is deff one of my strongest spots my high percantage is deff just a plain jane americana. My concern is i want to progress in the system and dropping out half of it isnt gonna be a way for me to do it if that makes since. I know belt rankings arent everything but i do someday want to be promoted to show that my hard work has paid off I doubt i ever will if i'm not running all the moves.....Paleo is deff a great way to go I have heard great things about it...All sodas have already been cut out of my diet I'm primarily a meat eater already. Its not like i eat out of control or anything i dont eat out i hate sweets. I would have to say carbs deff are a big problem though. Bread, noodles etc. I will try to cut those out through april and see what kind of results i have.

Hi, before my latest match I took a month diet and lost almost too much weight. I took a picture on every meal I ate. (maybe I forgot 1 or 2 meal but you get the point.) I ate also fruits and rye bread and lots of peanuts. Also suplements for example fish oil, spirulina, maca, vitamins etc. So here is link

    http://www.boneless.fi/BONELESS_123/...2_Dieetti.html

hope it helps you. I think food was good and I was hungry only first 2 days. The weight is measured on kilograms.

I'm a specialist personal trainer in the uk mate, I would agree with everyone here who is saying not to give up completely even just once a week will keep you in the Jiu jitsu game, I can imagine it to be frustrating tho!
If I was to offer some simple tips on weightless it would be these

    1. Only eat natural foods, only eat things that walk, swim or grow

    2. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day, if you can, make this the only thing you drink

    3. Eat 4-6 SMALL meals throughout the day, make sure you eat breakfast, the goal is never to be hungry and never to be full

    4. Avoid all refined sugars and trans fats, read ingredients labels, if you see ingredients that wouldn't have been available to a caveman don't eat it, use herbs and spices to flavour your food.

    5. Portion control, All meals should be balanced with a small amount of lean protein, a small amount of whole grain carbs and a good amount of veg, with some healthy fats, omegas, MCTs etc

    6. Resistance training should be done 3 times per week focusing on large compound movements, squats, bench, row, press and dead lifts

    7. Cardio should be done on an interval format, so high intensity for say 30 sec and then rest for 30 sec then repeat, no longer than 20 mins

    8. Kettlebells are great as they work both of those areas, find some good KB workouts that get your heart rate up and use a heavy enough bell that it will help you build muscle

    9. Make sure you take rest days, this is when your body changes not when you are actually training

    10. Nutrition is key, make sure you stick to it religiously, if you are struggling to stick to it, use 1 cheat day every 7 days, that has to be strict though, start your week on a Monday and plan which day will be your cheat day, like for instance if you know you are seeing friends etc, on a cheat day you are allowed to eat anything you want guilt free, BUT it can only be on that day, the other 6 have to strictly sticking to the guidelines or it won't work!

I tried to keep it simple but it is so deep that I could go on all week about it

Any questions let me know man

So, I've got bad news... You may never master EVERYTHING. It may actually help you that you are working on fewer things than other white belts. Try adding the kimura, and arm triangle maybe? How about twister side, even if its just to go to mount at first. Also, speak to your instructor about how you might be able to still get the moves he/she is teaching. I find that many times there is a technique flaw that is blamed on body type. Just don't stop training, jiu jitsu is for everybody. My friend and sponsored instructor Case Nelson took 2 years to get his first tap (he's a 10th planet black belt now)... I wasn't much quicker... In the grand scheme of things, your problems aren't that big... Don't get frustrated, keep at it. Good luck

"Never Quit" is one of the secrets to success in Jiu Jitsu.

David you need lifestyle changes, eating healthy and excercise is not a enough. Start with a healthy mind and outlook on life, the rest falls into place.

At one point in my life I was 309lbs. The first thing that needed attending was my perspective on life. Everything after that was easy.
