In Orange County, we recently heard some groundbreaking news. In response to
Peruta v. San Diego, our Sheriff's Dept. agreed to start granting CCW permits based on self defense or personal protection as the "good cause". Prior to this, "good cause" was nearly impossible to justify, and only government agents, diamond merchants, and people being stalked could apply. It was virtually impossible for an average person to obtain a permit.
But as of now, they're accepting applications based on self defense. I scheduled an appointment within 24 hours of the news breaking (just a few days ago) and the appointments were already booked solid until mid July!
The CA attorney general is trying to appeal the case, so who knows what will happen. But as of now it looks like California residents will actually be able to CCW soon.
I hit up the range last night and rented a Glock 26 because I've been eyeing it as a future carry gun. I shot a great first 11-round group from 21ft, so I'll probably pick one of those up in the next week or so. I was pretty happy with how I shot it, considering that I'd never handled a Glock 26 before. I think my familiarity with the Glock 19 transferred over to it because they feel so similar.
